"Peace Ark" successfully concluded visit to Trinidad and Tobago

On Nov. 15, 2011, "Peace Ark", the Chinese Navy hospital ship left Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago, concluding its visit to the country. H.E. Mr. Yang Youming, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and his wife Mme. Geng Hailing, together with the Hon. Dr. Fuad Khan, Minister of Health, the Hon. Colin Partap, Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Brigadier Kenrick Maharaj, Chief of Defence Staff, representatives from the Chinese community and Chinese companies based in Trinidad and Tobago, were present at the farewell ceremony hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago government.

Minister Partap made warm remarks on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago side. He expressed his sincere gratitude to "Peace Ark" for providing humanitarian medical services and consultations to over 2900 local Trinbagonians during its 8-day visit. He highly praised the professionalism and sincere dedication of the medical staff on board, which left a deep impression on the local people. Mnister Partap especially pointed out that the local media also applauded "Peace Ark" as "Peace Ambassador", saying that the visit was a resounding success for bringing well-beings to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

Rear Admiral Qiu Yanpeng delivered his remarks in response. He said that since the establishment of the formal diplomatic relations, the two countries had always maintained friendly exchanges. The visit of "Peace Ark" demonstrates vividly this friendly relationship. He expressed his appreciation for the strong support rendered by the Government and Defence Force of Trinidad and Tobago. The staff of  "Peace Ark" have established a deep friendship with the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and they will take their good wishes back to China and treasure their visit here as lifetime memories. He also extended the best wishes for prosperity of Trinidad and Tobago and well-beings of its people.

Minister Khan, Minister Partap and Brigadier Maharaj presented tokens to Rear Admiral Qiu.

With the performance of Steel Pan Band of Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force and Lion Dance by local Chinese lion dance team, "Peace Ark" left the port of Port of Spain. The officers on board lined up, waving goodbye to the crowd on the shore, who waved back with national flags of the two countries in their hands, and tears in the eyes of some of them.  It was a very touching scene.
