From Feb. 28 to Mar. 2, 2011, at the invitation of the Ministry of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago, General Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, led a military delegation on an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago. During his stay, General Ma held talks with the Hon. Brigadier John Sandy, Minister of National Security, met respectively with the Hon. Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Orville London, Chief Secretary of Tobago House of Assembly, and Colonel Kenrick Maharaj, Acting Chief of Defense Staff of Trinidad and Tobago and also reviewed the Defense Forces of Trinidad and Tobago.
In the bilateral talks and meetings, both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, in particular the military cooperation, including issues of common interest such as military personnel exchanges and training programs. Both sides agreed to further strengthen exchanges, learn from each other and promote military cooperation, so as to continue to push forward the cooperative friendly relationship of mutual benefit between China and Trinidad and Tobago.
Ambassador Yang Youming accompanied General Ma Xiaotian throughout the visit, and held a buffet dinner in honor of the General. The Hon. Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, senior officials from the Ministry of National Security and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and high-ranking officers from the Defense Forces of Trinidad and Tobago attended the dinner.
