Ambassador Song Yumin Hands Over Medical Supplies to Contain COVID-19 Donated by Shanghai Municipality to Port of Spain

On April 23, the medical supplies to contain COVID-19 donated by Shanghai Municipality to Trinidad and Tobago were handed over in a ceremony held in the Chinese Embassy. Present at the ceremony were Chinese Ambassador Song Yumin and Mayor of Port of Spain Joel Martinez.

Ambassador Song handed over the medical supplies, noting that since the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, Trinidad and Tobago extended sympathy and support and donated supplies to China, which was a strong testimony to the friendly relations between the two countries. The city of Port of Spain also donated supplies to Shanghai Municipality which embodies the brotherhood between the two cities. By providing medical supplies, Shanghai Municipality would like reciprocate to the government and people of Trinidad and Tobago and Port of Spain. He believed that the cooperation between China and Trinidad and Tobago to fight against the pandemic will further enrich the connotation of Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries and make contribution to safeguarding global public health security.

Mayor Martinez thanked Shanghai Municipality for the donation, noting that he was happy to receive the supplies amid the critical time when Trinidad and Tobago fights the pandemic. He believed that these supplies will make a great difference for Trinidad and Tobago and Port of Spain in containing COVID-19. Port of Spain attaches great importance to developing friendly cooperation with Shanghai Municipality. It is ready to further deepen cooperation in various fields, making more contribution to China-Trinidad and Tobago relations.
