The virus outbreak has caused 259 deaths so far while 243 persons have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 136,987 persons who have had close contact with coronavirus patients have been tracked with 118,478 being kept under medical observation and 6,509 released from observation.

An online statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday reaffirmed China's full confidence and capability to control the coronavirus epidemic as well as its commitment to working in close cooperation with the World Health Organisation and the international community to safeguard global public health security. The Chinese government has taken the most comprehensive prevention and containment measures in an all-out effort to combat the outbreak with many measures exceeding the requirements of the International Health Regulations.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China's highest level academic institution and research and development centre, has announced that it would allow Chinese researchers open and free access to their advanced scientific cloud platform to facilitate research on the virus. Similarly, China's leading information technology companies have offered their artificial intelligence (AI) computing capabilities and gene sequencing algorithm research institutes worldwide to speed up efforts to form a detailed profile of the virus that is needed for vaccine development.

"The Embassy of the People's Republic of China to Trinidad and Tobago continues to closely monitor the entry of Chinese citizens into Trinidad and Tobago," said Ambassador Song Yumin. He added, "We will work side by side with the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in efforts towards the prevention and the containment of the coronavirus".
