Ambassador Fang Qiu presents food vouchers at Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society donation drive

The Chinese Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago has partnered with the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society (TTRCS) to assist 138 families throughout the country with food vouchers to aid with their basic dietary needs. The donation drive is one of the many ongoing efforts by the Chinese Embassy to improve the lives of people in many communities.

Speaking on the first day of distribution at the TTRCS head office in Port of Spain, His Excellency Ambassador Fang Qiu said this partnership not only signified the Embassy’s commitment to humanitarian aid but also served as an example of the increasing global outreach of China's philanthropic efforts. Such cooperative efforts showcased a diverse approach and highlighted the significance of working together to tackle socio-economic difficulties.

Ambassador Fang said, based on apeople-centeredphilosophyfor development, China has made further progress in achieving common prosperity for all. While focusing on developing itself, China is providing the world with opportunities of development with its own modernization. Through Chinas development, more positive energy will be added to global peace and new opportunities will be created for global development.

The Chinese Embassy will continue working with the Ministry of  Social Development and Family Services and the Red Cross Society to carry out more cooperation in philanthropy, such as to create a better life for our two peoples and build a community with a shared future for both countries, said Ambassador Fang.

Ambassador’s sentiments were echoed by Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Senator the Honourable Donna Cox, who commended the Ambassador for initiating and driving this project that touches the homes of persons across Trinidad and Tobago and noted that partnerships were essential in ensuring the needs of the most vulnerable were met.She said, this gesture of kindness and giving, will not only provide sustenance to those facing difficult times, but [it] also demonstrates the cooperation and solidarity that define us as a Nation. She further added that we are confident that futurepartnerships with both the Chinese Embassy and the Red Cross Society of Trinidad and Tobagowill bring additional help to the poor and vulnerable in our society.

Also in attendance was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services Lenor Baptiste-Simmons and Ms. Jill De Bourg, President of Trinidad & Tobago Red Cross Society who also delivered remarks.

The Livelihood Support for Vulnerable Families initiative takes place between December 5-7 with beneficiaries in Port of Spain, Tunapuna, Kelly Village, St. Helena, Sangre Grande, Penal/Debe and Tobago. The families were identified from the TTRCS’s database  based on information collected from past emergency operations and previously assessments.
