On April 13, 2014, the Trinidad and Tobago Dragon Boat Association hosted the 2014 Dragon Boat Regatta, over a dozen teams from 14 local schools participated in the contest. H.E. Mr. Huang Xingyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago was present and made a remark. Mrs. Lan Heping, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, the visiting delegation of China Agriculture University, director and teachers of Confucius Institute at UWI were also invited to attend the function.
Ambassador Huang extended his warm congratulations for the opening of the 2014 Dragon Boat Regatta. He stressed that those participants' spirit of unity, enterprise and persistence would be cultivated through the Dragon Boat Regatta. He said he was very happy to witness the quick development of this sport game in TT, and would like to express his heartfelt thanks for the great contribution to the promotion of this event made by Mr. Franco Siu Chong, Latin American and Caribbean Commissioner of International Dragon Boat Federation, Mr. Dalip, President of TT Dragon Boat Federation, members of local Chinese Communities and relevant TT governmental agencies, etc...
Trinidad and Tobago Chinese Steel Ensemble played China and TT's National Anthems at the ceremony, and then played Chinese traditional music to create a joyful atmosphere for the event.
