On Nov 11, 2013, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Trinidad and Tobago hosted Media Appreciation Reception and the official opening of "Beautiful China" photographic exhibition in collaboration with the National Library and Information System Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (NALIS) at the national library in Port of Spain. H.E. Mr. Huang Xingyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and Mrs. Lucia Phillip, Executive Director of NALIS, made remarks respectively. Mrs. Cheryl-Ann Ramsubeik, Chairman of the Board, was invited to attend the function. Journalists and photographers from over 10 local medias, Professor Clement Sankat, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal of UWI St. Augustine, Ms. Hu Youzhen, China-side Director of Confucius Institute at UWI St. Augustine and other Chinese Language Instructors, leaders from local Chinese Communities were present.

 | Ambassador Huang said," library is called sea of knowledge and journalist is called an uncrowned king. So today, it makes perfect sense to host media appreciation at the National Library." Ambassador Huang's vivid metaphor aroused the audience's big applauses.

 | Ambassador Huang stressed, " Dear Friends, the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China is being held in Beijing these days. It is an important meeting for China to deepen its reform and opening-up, and I believe you would be interested in it. I look forward to the media’s comprehensive and objective coverage on it."

 | Mrs. Lucia Phillip said," Our continuing partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China provides NALIS and our clients with information on the people and culture of China. As part of our collaboration, in April 2011, NALIS hosted an exhibition of more than 70 photographs of Trinidadian society taken by Chinese nationals, showing as it were the beauty of our twin island through the eyes of the photographers. In 2012 NALIS received a donation of 165 books on Chinese culture, history, festivals, music, food and calligraphy. Today we open this exhibition of photographs depicting scenes of a forward looking China as the country pursues its goal of national development. Once again thank you for choosing NALIS to host this exhibition which I am sure will be well received by our patrons. "
